About the Training
Course Objectives:
- Utilize the BTAM Model to triage violent threats and identify cases during the initial police response
- Understand the history of Behavioral Threat Assessment
- Build confidence in utilizing mitigation tools to prevent future violence to include: Risk Protection Orders; Domestic Violence Protection Orders; and Florida Firearm Prohibition for Mental Illness
- Examine real, local case studies from the Patrol perspective and discuss lessons learned
- Build a vocabulary to gain subject and bystander cooperation
- Learn report writing techniques to document mitigation efforts and limit liability
- Build community confidence in your Agency's violence prevention efforts
The Instructor, Detective Christopher Carita, has 4 years in Threat Response and Risk Protection Order Implementation, and 10 years in Investigations in his 18-year career. He earned his Master of Public Health as a Bloomberg Fellow at Johns Hopkins University, and currently advises at the Center for Gun Violence Solutions on Extreme Risk Protection Order Implementation and Training. Detective Carita is also a DHS Master Trainer for Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM).
