Risk Protection Order Essentials - DAYTIME

This one day IN PERSON course, Friday October 27th from 8:00am to 5:00pm, is designed for Front Line Patrol Officers and Investigators to identify and manage cases that may require a Risk Protection Order (RPO) to mitigate potential threats of Gun Violence in your communities. This course will be hosted at Broward College's Institute of Public Safety.

Course Objectives:

• Triage cases and identify opportunities to utilize Florida's Risk Protection Order Law
• Understand the history of Risk Protection Orders in preventing Targeted Violence
• Understand the Florida RPO Process from Investigation, to Petition, to Service, Firearm Recovery, and Management

This course is being delivered by Christopher Carita. Detective Christopher Carita has 4 years in Threat Response and Risk Protection Order Implementation, and 10 years in Investigations in his 18-year career. He earned his Master of Public Health with a focus on violence prevention as an esteemed Bloomberg Fellow at Johns Hopkins University and currently advises on Extreme Risk Protection Order Implementation and Training at the Center for Gun Violence Solutions. Detective Carita is also a Department of Homeland Security Master Trainer for Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM).
